Keeping a beginners mind.

Moo Sa Martial Arts & Kids Karate

In our training there is something we talk to our studetns about. In korean it is called Cho Shim. This means beginners mind. It is important for our students to always keep a beginners mind in life and in their Tae Kwon Do training. When you are a "beginner" your mind is open and you are ready to take in all the information you can. Unfortunitly when we gain some experiance some of us tend to stop listening so much because we feel like we already know enough. But this is not the case. Students should always listen to the instructors and teachers in school no matter how many times they have heard the lesson. You learn something new everytime. As always I will give you some examples. Have you ever watched a movie you really liked more then once? Ok, have you ever seen something in the movie the second the second time that you did not see the forst time? Or what about a book you like? Have you ever read a book for the second time and read a part that you forgot about? The movie is really the best example for this because if you watch the movie again and you believe you know everything about it you will not watch it as intently as you would if you knew there was a part you missed last time. Always remember to keep Cho Shim when learning. Beginners mind.

Awesome back to school party

Moo Sa Martial Arts & Kids Karate

We have awesome parties throughout the year for our students. Last night was our back to school party. This is a free party we do every September and the whole family stays. We get the parents involved with with the games. We have outside games. Last night was the best ever because the students had a chance to throw a whipped cream pie at Master Quillen!! Thats right! How fun is that! The next party we are having is our halloween party and sleep over. Flyers and registartion will be out soon for that. The haloween party is where we do our costume contest. The sleepover is afterwards and that is where we play most of the games and the students get a chance to mummy wrap the instructors! This is the highlight of the sleepover and it is a contest too. We need to see who can mummy wrap their instructor the fastest with toilet paper. Keep an eye out for all this information coming soon.

I wanted to take this oppotunity to remind everyone that if we do have to cancel classes there will be an email that is sent out. There will also be a facebook post and a notification that is sent out through the app. If the closing is on short notice we will also change the answering machine to notify you of the closing. Im hoping everything will be ok for us and the storm will miss us entirley.

The beach workout is this weekend! We will keep everyone posted as we hear more about it. As of now lets move forward as if we are still having it.

Who waited to the last minute to do their summer reading?

Moo Sa Martial Arts & Kids Karate

One thing our tae kwon do training teaches us is how to set goals and that it takes hard work to achieve that goal. If you ask someone what a goal is you will probably get the answer that it is something you want or something you have to get done. This is correct, but it is missing one very imporant part. It is missing a deadline! It is missing a date or time as to when you want to accomplish it. Everyone has had something they needed to do and the deadline was the only thing that motivated them to take action and get it done. On the other hand we have all said we wanted to do something around the house and we just never got around to it. Why did this happen? Did you giver yourself a deadline? If you do not have a deadline set on something you want to accomplish then you do not have a goal, what you have is a wish. Our training gives us clean cut goals, we know exactly what we need to learn to reach the next level, and each student knows when they are supposed to test for their next rank. Having that deadline is so important in everything we do in life. We teach our students the BLACK BELT SUCCESS CYCLE. 1- Know what you want  2- have a plan    3- and a success coach    4- take consistant action    5- review your progress  6- and renew your goals.  Something might happen that will cause you to have to adjsut your deadline, which is fine. But you have a new deadline. Use this and trust me, it will help.

Karate on the beach

Moo Sa Martial Arts & Kids Karate

We have man free family evetns throughout the year. The beach workout is by far everyone's favorite. We get to train with all our friends from other Do Jangs and then relax on the beach. Please be sure to sign up in the lobby if you are attending the workout. It helps us to have an idea of how many students will be training.
